Electrical Panels and Enclosures
Laser-cut, formed and welded panel boxes, gland plates and cabinet frames for MENA electrical contractors and panel builders

Electrical panel builders, HVAC contractors and maintenance teams across Egypt, the UAE and Saudi Arabia order custom enclosures and gland plates when a standard catalogue box does not fit the equipment layout, or when a project needs a specific IP rating, cutout pattern or finish. Enclosures are typically laser-cut and bent from sheet steel, with welded seams for higher IP ratings and powder coating or galvanising for outdoor and coastal installations.
CutLinq supplies custom enclosure boxes, gland plates, mounting panels and cabinet frames to size. Upload a DXF or STEP file with your cutout pattern and receive a binding quote within 12 hours.
Material and gauge selection
Indoor panel boxes are commonly made from 1.2-2 mm mild steel (DC01 or S235JR) and powder coated, which is the lowest-cost option for dry indoor switch rooms. Outdoor enclosures in the Gulf, exposed to sun, dust and occasional rain, are typically 1.5-2.5 mm galvanised DX51D+Z or 1.4301 (304) stainless, since bare mild steel corrodes at seams and cutouts within months outdoors.
Coastal sites in Jeddah, Dammam, Abu Dhabi and Dubai's Ras Al Khor and JAFZA zones, where salt air accelerates corrosion, often specify 1.4404 (316L) for enclosures near the coastline or in desalination and marine-adjacent facilities, at roughly 25-35% more cost than 304.
| Application | Material and gauge | Typical IP rating |
|---|---|---|
| Indoor switch room panel | DC01/S235JR, 1.2-1.5 mm | IP54 |
| Outdoor distribution box, dry climate | DX51D+Z, 1.5-2 mm | IP55-IP65 |
| Outdoor box, coastal or washdown | 1.4301 (304), 1.5-2 mm | IP65-IP66 |
| Marine-adjacent or chemical exposure | 1.4404 (316L), 2 mm | IP66 |
| Heavy-duty distribution cabinet | S235JR, 2-3 mm | IP54-IP55 |
Seams, gaskets and IP rating
IP54 and below is achievable with laser-cut and bent panels with standard overlapping doors and basic foam gasket. IP65 and above requires continuous welded seams (not just bent-and-riveted corners), a compressed silicone or EPDM gasket channel, and cutouts sealed with grommets or cable glands rated to match.
Weld seams intended to seal against water ingress should be continuous, ground flush, and tested; a tack-welded corner that looks sealed but has gaps will fail an IP65 spray test even though it appears watertight by eye.
| IP rating | Construction requirement | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| IP54 | Bent box, overlapping door, foam gasket | Indoor, dusty but dry |
| IP55 | Sealed cutouts, compressed gasket | Semi-outdoor, covered area |
| IP65 | Continuous welded seam, silicone gasket, sealed glands | Outdoor, direct rain exposure |
| IP66 | IP65 plus reinforced door seal for high-pressure jets | Washdown areas, coastal exposure |
Gland plates and cutout accuracy
Gland plates need cutouts positioned to match cable entry points exactly, since a misaligned hole cannot be moved once the plate is bent and fitted. Laser-cut hole diameters for standard metric cable glands (M20, M25, M32, M40, M50) should follow the gland manufacturer's specified panel-cutout diameter, typically 0.3-0.5 mm larger than the gland thread's nominal size to allow the locknut to seat properly.
For high cable-density plates, keep at least 1.5x the hole diameter as spacing between adjacent cutouts to preserve plate strength and gasket seating.
Ventilation and thermal management
In Gulf summer conditions, ambient temperatures of 45-50 degC outdoors mean enclosures housing VFDs, contactors or transformers need forced ventilation, filtered louvres, or a heat exchanger rather than relying on natural convection through unsealed seams, which would also compromise the IP rating. Laser-cut louvre or mesh panels with a filter frame are a common solution for IP54 outdoor cabinets that still need airflow.
For sealed IP65 enclosures with heat-generating equipment inside, a compact air-to-air heat exchanger or vortex cooler is typically specified rather than opening the enclosure, since any breach in the seal defeats the rating.
Design tips
- Specify the target IP rating on the drawing, not just the construction method, so the supplier selects the right seam and gasket approach.
- For coastal or washdown installations, specify 1.4301 (304) or 1.4404 (316L) rather than powder-coated mild steel; coating damage at a cutout edge becomes a corrosion starting point within months.
- Size gland plate cutouts to the gland manufacturer's panel-hole specification, not the cable diameter; using the wrong hole size prevents the gland from sealing.
- Keep at least 1.5x the cutout diameter as edge-to-edge spacing between adjacent gland holes on a dense plate.
- For outdoor cabinets in direct sun, specify a lighter RAL colour (RAL 7035 or similar) rather than dark colours to reduce internal heat buildup by several degrees.
- Add drainage weep holes with a baffle at the lowest point of any outdoor enclosure that is not fully IP66 sealed, to let condensation escape without allowing water ingress.
- Confirm door hinge and lock hardware compatibility before finalising cutout positions; standard hardware differs between suppliers and misalignment cannot be corrected after bending.

Pricing and lead time
Enclosure price is driven by material and gauge (stainless costs more per kg than mild steel and machines slower), by construction method (welded IP65 seams cost more in labour than bent-and-riveted IP54 boxes), and by finishing and hardware (powder coating, gaskets, hinges, locks and cable glands add a per-unit charge on top of fabrication). Simple bent panel boxes ship in 3-5 working days; welded IP65-rated enclosures with gaskets and hardware fitted in 7-12 working days.
